Jin Jeong earns Evidence-based Design Accreditation Certification

Jin Jeong, an Interior Designer with WMF, has recently earned an Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC). EDAC is a program that establishes new standards for individuals who are using an evidence-based design process for healthcare building projects.

Evidence-based design (EBD) is the process of basing decisions about the built environment on credible research to achieve the best possible outcomes. The Center for Health Design created the evidence-based design accreditation and certification, EDAC, program to establish a definition and process for incorporating EBD into design. Today, EDAC is an internationally recognized program that awards certification to individuals who demonstrate an understanding of the application of EBD in the design, construction, renovation, expansion, and replacement of healthcare facilities.

A large and growing body of evidence attests to the fact that physical environment impacts patient stress, patient and staff safety, staff effectiveness and quality of care provided in hospitals and other healthcare settings. Basing healthcare facility planning and design decisions on this evidence to achieve the best possible patient, staff and operational outcomes is what evidence-based design is all about. An EDAC-certified individual can help make design decisions and recommendations based upon the best available research information. Using this process has been proven to produce measurable improvements in healthcare facility clinical outcomes, economic performance, productivity, customer satisfaction and cultural measures, among others.
