Design to Accommodate Equipment Installation

June 9, 2015, Erie, PA:

The arrival of a 700,000 lb press, the main piece of production equipment involved in the 18,000 sq ft project for one of our international industrial clients, has arrived.  Installation began over the weekend.

Provisions for rigging and installation of 700,000 lbs. of equipment became a design driver.  Each one of the two main press frames weigh 140,000 lbs. each.  We worked with our client and contemplated a few different ways to move this size and weight of equipment into the building.  We settled on a 20’ x 20’ removable skylight located directly over the press pit that would enable the larger and heavier press pieces to be craned in through the opening in the roof.  The skylight was originally installed late last fall to enclose the building.  This past weekend, the skylight was temporarily removed while the larger pieces were craned into place, and then reinstalled.
