Yuma Visitor’s Center

Yuma, Arizona

The history-rich city of Yuma, AZ is located on the Colorado River, between Arizona, California and Mexico. The city has been developing it’s historic and cultural assets since the mid 1990’s. The Yuma/Arizona State Visitors Center will be located on the Colorado River, and situated along Route 8.

The Visitor Center will serve as a museum for the 1948 World Record Endurance Flight. The city of Yuma staged a flight endurance record in an attempt to convince the US Military to not shutter the local air base. Using a modified 1948 Aeronca Sedan, two pilots kept the plane aloft for 1,124 hours, being refueled several times a day, on the run, with a 1948 Buick Super convertible.

The facility will contain a display area for both Yuma and the State of Arizona, an information center and gift shop, office areas, and storage. An observation tower will echo the flight “theme” and provide a vantage point for visitors to view the Colorado River and nearby points of interest in Yuma.
