CLIENT GOALS

The existing fitness center needed to be relocated from a windowless basement space, requiring an expansion to the facility.  The goal was to merchandise the activity through transparency as opposed to the existing opaque building.  This was a primary finding from a market study that suggested expansion and improvements would assist in retaining existing members and attracting new members.  Another goal was to create a current state-of-the-art multi-purpose gymnasium.

SOLUTIONS

The Glenwood YMCA underwent a renovation and expansion to serve the growing Glenwood YMCA membership. The 26,000+ sf expansion provides a new entrance lobby, snack bar, fitness area with an abundance of natural light, chapel, multi-purpose studio, child watch area, Multi-Activity-Center (MAC) gymnasium and elevated running/walking track.  Transparency from space to space within was increased, and extensive walls of glass were provided at the exterior of the new additions enabling passersby to better see the activity within.

RESULTS

Upon completion of the project the YMCA experienced a significant uptick in memberships and achieved membership growth as forecast in the market study.
