expERIEnce Children’s Museum Awarded 2024 Greater Erie Award

WMF is proud to announce that our design for the expERIEnce Children’s Museum has been honored with a 2024 Greater Erie Award for Design Excellence by Preservation Erie. This prestigious recognition highlights our firm’s commitment to blending innovative design with historic preservation, creating a space that enriches the Greater Erie community.

Honoring Architectural Innovation and Preservation

The Greater Erie Awards, presented annually by the board of Preservation Erie, celebrate individuals, businesses, and organizations that demonstrate exceptional stewardship of the region’s physical and cultural landscape. This year, the expERIEnce Children’s Museum was recognized for its artful new addition and the thoughtful rehabilitation of the historic Boston Store Livery, a structure that has served as the museum’s home for many years.

WMF worked closely with the museum to balance contemporary design with the rich history of the existing building. The newly constructed addition enhances the museum’s mission of providing interactive learning experiences while ensuring the historical integrity of the site remains intact.

The Water Table exhibit allows children to learn about Erie’s roots in maritime activities. The climbable ship in the background is modeled after the Brig Niagara, a relief flagship during the Battle of Lake Erie.

A Collaborative Effort for the Community

Our team at WMF is honored to have played a pivotal role in bringing this vision to life. The project not only expands the museum’s capacity to inspire young minds, but also contributes to the revitalization of downtown Erie.

“It’s been a really exciting process for not only me, but my staff,” said Ainslie Brosig, executive director of the expERIEnce Children’s Museum. “This is a museum you would see in any big city, and we are really lucky to have it here in Erie.” (YourErie.com)

We look forward to continuing our work in shaping spaces that celebrate history, learning, and creativity in our community.
