The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland Achieves LEED Silver!
We are delighted to announce the new LGBTQ+ Community Center has achieved LEED Silver Certification, v4 BD+C (Building Design + Construction) New Construction.
Our goal was to deliver a dynamic, meaningful and sustainable building for many years to come and were excited when our client chose to participate in the LEED certification process. The timing of this decision was made just as the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) shifted from v3 to v4 standards for green building design, construction, operations and performance. We are pleased our team was able to achieve our client’s and their donor’s aspirations of attaining LEED Silver within these updated guidelines.
The new 15,500 SF building is located on an existing urban site, which reduced the environmental impact. It is also located in an area which included existing infrastructure, promoted walkability, bicycling and situated along a busy transportation line. The parking footprint was reduced and the specification of the building roof, terrace pavers and concrete drive and pervious pavers resulted in a heat island reduction effect.
Key aspects include the investment in a state-of-the-art VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) HVAC system, lighting and control systems to optimize energy performance, high efficiency plumbing systems and highly recycled content building materials and responsible sourcing of materials.
We extend our congratulations for this milestone to our client, The LBGT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, and project team:
