CLIENT GOALS

The existing recreation center was in dire need of a makeover and increasing wellness center usage dictated that an expansion was necessary to accommodate the increased demand.  Increasing the natural daylighting to the facility was desired.  The College wanted to use this opportunity to present a new face to Community College Avenue and the surrounding neighborhood. 

SOLUTIONS

Improvements were accomplished by renovating approximately 22,000 GSF of space on two floors of the Recreation Center and underground corridor.  Former racquetball courts were demolished, walls between were removed and a new floor was added at the main level creating a new open plan equipment floor and area for staff offices.  Included in the design was the relocation of offices, multi-purpose classrooms and an athletic trainer room within the Recreation Center to free up the desired space for the Wellness Center.  A modern demonstration kitchen was a feature in the large classroom. The entrance expansion added a full glass curtain wall making the space visible to the street and created a new main entry for the Wellness Center, also considered a front door to the evolving campus.  A landscaped courtyard was included to make the new entrance more inviting.

RESULTS

The College recognized increased visibility and usage, welcoming students and community alike into a modern Wellness environment.
