CLIENT GOALS
Our Lady of Mercy Church, closed as part of a parish reorganization plan, was to undergo adaptive reuse. Project financing depended, in part, on securing Historic Tax Credits at both the federal and state level requiring all exterior improvements and interior changes comply with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitating Historic Properties.
SOLUTIONS
Following a $5 million renovation, Our Lady of Mercy is now home to Hermes Cleveland (a sports and events management firm), and MCM Company (historic renovation specialists), which together purchased the three-building property from the Diocese of Cleveland. A tenant, RFC Group (an office furnishings company) occupies the former sanctuary. The project was awarded $1.56 million in state and federal historic and tax credits.
RESULTS
The project garnered several awards; 2016 Office Renovation of the Year (NAIOP Cleveland) and 2016 Distinguished Adaptive Use of a Sacred Landmark Award (Cleveland Restoration Society).
