CLIENT GOALS

Penn State Behrend needed to improve Nittany Lion Shrine Sire on campus.  The iconic statue site had become tired and worn and a refresh was needed.  The statue is a frequent destination and photo opportunity for students and campus visitors.

SOLUTIONS

Flanked by natural surroundings and a backdrop of native greenery, the Lion Plaza at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College is enjoyed by students, alumni and visitors year-round. Made possible by numerous individuals and organizations, the Nittany Lion statue is situated along the campus’s primary pedestrian corridor at the intersection of the Junker Center, the Smith Chapel and the college’s Research and Economic Development Center (REDC).

Stones from the site are layered with evergreen groundcovers, perennial daylilies, grasses and shrubs, extending seasonal interest and enhancing photographic opportunities. As with all Commonwealth Campuses, Penn State Behrend’s replica is 75 percent to scale of the original shrine.

RESULTS

A quick Google search of Penn State Behrend Lion Shrine returns numerous photographs of current students, prospective students, and alumni with their picture being taken at the Lion Shrine.
